Trichotillomania

Hey all,

I woke up this morning and considered starting a support/recovery tumblr for Trich since I’ve gotten a lot of requests here and on my personal tumblr to do so. I started going through the trichotillomania tags on Tumblr to see what was already out there because honestly it felt a little triggering to think about. Even though I feel really far along in my recovery. Even though I’ve talked openly about my Trich for a while.

But, much like when I started talking about body acceptance, the hardest part of it all is hearing stories of those just beginning their journey to recovery. It kills to hear of all the young people suffering from trich and low self esteem and loneliness. It hurts to remember the days of pulling and pulling and the intense regret and shame that follow. I remember it like it was yesterday and even reading these stories today made my cheeks heat up and my heart race like I was pulling with them.

Ya’ll are so lucky to have access to the internet.

I would have given anything growing up to know even ONE other person with Trich growing up. Even as a pen pal. Even to not know them, but know they exist.

Though the internet is riddled with problems, the sense of community and the access to stories and support is such a gift.

Remember how lucky you are and hold each other gently.

There seem to be a lot of tumblrs out there dedicated to Trich recovery and support and today I’ll reblog some stuff from them, but if you feel like you’d still like to see me start a tumblr for it, please let me know :)

Also, as always, remember that this could be helpful but also triggering so be careful with yourselves and do what’s best for you. You’re all wonderful people and you’re not alone.
